Tasting Notes
Nose
Caramel infused peat, BBQ smoked meat and oak embers, red apples cooked in red wine, sea salt and iodine. There's the typical mixed herbs we find in Port Charlotte and Octomore - not as obvious as other bottlings. Slight sulphur note, but this dissipates after a few minutes in the glass.
Palate
Sweet caramel with hints of burnt sugar, oak embers, smoked wood spices, sea salt, cracked black pepper and mixed herbs. There's a big ashy note with hints of cigar wrapper and dark cholocate.
Finish
Medium - long, more wood spices, mixed herbs and salt. There is a slight fizz on the tongue that leaves an ashy flavour that lingers then tales off to a salted caramel note.
Overall
A great Port Chartlotte as many of them are. Probably for the more serious peat fans, this bottling is dominated by strong ashy/ember notes which some may not like but there is a nice balance of sweetness too. Tasting without water.
Worth a try for sure - this limited bottling is hitting high prices at auction already so might be difficult to find under £250-£300.
