Tasting Notes
Nose
Starting off with a nice delicate whiff of sea air, smoke, match heads and salted caramel, the sherry clearly pushing through. Wet hay and earthy, wet copper/minerally, fresh spices, dark fruits and an abundance of raspberry. After sitting in the glass for 10 minutes, there’s some charred embers appearing, liquorice and cinnamon.
Palate
Lots of ashy notes, fresh rolling tobacco, dark chocolate, sweet red fruits, black pepper. The salted caramel from the nose appears again, coated in cream. Red apples, vanilla, allspice, oak and hints of sea salt.
Finish
Medium – long, more ash, soot and embers, toasted marshmallows, vanilla, honey and cream. There’s more oak appearing with touches of allspice, wood spices and cloves.
Overall
A great sherry influenced Big Peat, it’s up there being our favourite of the range. The sherry finish really adds a new dimension and has been pulled off very well. Almost certainly sold out at retailers but does appear at auctions regularly. Prices can vary – however if you can get this around £60-£70 then you won’t be disappointed.
